Gaia's Garden Wisdom

September 21, 2008:

Autumnal Equinox - Gaia's Garden Wisdom Sorry for missing both Summer Solstice and Lammas.  Too much to do in the garden and some health problems.

A Brief note about Autumnal Equinox

This is the time when the daylight and darkness are equal.  Today there is a balance of outward, yang energies and inward Yin energies. They exist for a moment at 9:44 am this morning and then begin to shift to the forces of intuition, dark, and inner contemplation which slowly assend to rule the seasonal wheel through the winter.  This is a time to listen to your inner intuitive voice.

Here in Silver City It is beginning to feel like fall with cool nights and soft warm days. Still time to plant fall crops. It is still two months from the time of killing frost which happens in my garden around the 20th of November. Hope everyone had a good harvest.

Blessings, Basira.

HiDOG addresses the unique challenges of sustainable organic gardening/farming in the high desert mountains (6,000+ ft.) of Southwest New Mexico.

We are a loose group of area gardeners, beginners to masters, sharing knowledge, tips and tricks related to organically growing summer and winter food crops and the storage and distribution of home grown produce.

Possible topics for public workshops are "Building a Solar Drier", "Building a Cold Frame", "shareing tools, produce, seeds" and "Composting". To suggest other workshop topics post to the HiDog section of the community forum: HiDOG Forum.

Occasionally the Gardening Group will send eMail announcing meetings and workshops etc. Sign up at left.
